Session Title: Yours, Mine, and Ours: Addressing Student, Educator, and Collective Mental Health in Times of Crisis

Presenter: Mary McNaughton-Cassill, Professor of Psychology, University of Texas, San Antonio

Date and Time: Friday, July 31st, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM PDT

Format: Presentation

Session Details: In March as we pivoted to teaching online in response to a growing pandemic, we all hoped that things would return to normal by fall. Instead we find ourselves teaching online, or in masks, while dealing with our own anxiety about the pandemic and trying to help our students cope with their stress. This lecture will provide an overview of disaster related stress and provide tips for how to use the principles of Psychological First Aid to manage distress and cope with burnout and compassion fatigue. While we can’t always control the things that stress us, we can choose how we want to respond.
